How are youths represented in the clip?

The extract shown, represents teenagers lives, immediately from the titles, you can hear upbeat music opening up the show, this would support Dick Hebidge's theory saying "Youth as fun." - 1988 The music suggests that the teens are happy fun and up to no good, fitting in with the typical stereotypes of teenagers, as the titles continue we can see multiple images of the characters, having sex, taking drugs and drinking. This would support Stanley Hall's theory of that criminal activity increases between the age of 12&14 but also "Youth must have excitement and if this is not at hand in the form of moral intellectual enthusiasms, it is more prone to be sought in: sex, drink, or drugs." This portrays youths as rebellious, and that the characters in the title live up to the stereotypes of teenagers.

The first shot is a extreme close up and a birds eye view, showing the characters face, the lighting only shows half the characters face, suggesting they have a good side, however also have a bad rebellious side which fits into the stereotypes of teenagers. There is then a zoom out from the characters face, and diegetic sound of bells coming from a church in the background, this represents sins and reflects on the teenagers behaviour supporting Dick Hebidge's theory of "Youth of trouble maker." Continuing on into the extract the characters alarm goes off, then he immediately gets up and plays diegetic music, which is sexualised hip-hop. This would argue Stanley Hall's theory on how youths take interest in sex, the next extract shows the character working out using mid shots, it shows how he's body conscious and wants to look good supporting the typical views on teenagers. There then is an over the shoulder shot, showing the character looking at themselves in the mirror, this is also showing how they're body conscious and supporting the typical views on teenagers being body conscious mad. Continuing on into the clip, we can hear diegetic sound of the characters watch going off, this shows that the character is well organised and goes against the typical views of teenagers being lazy. The character walks over to the windowsill where it shows an over the shoulder shot, with shaky hand movements showing the character is nervous, as he looks at his middle aged neighbour who is naked. This would support Stanley Hall's theory of youths getting excitement off sex. Another character appears in the extract, it's a teenager wearing minimal clothing and covered in last nights make-up, it makes the character look like a sexual object, and is dressed provocatively which supports
